Adam Silvera – An Evening with.

Hello guys, hope all is well and you are reading all sorts!

I thought I would do a short blog post about a book signing I went to the other day in Waterstones Piccadilly.

I was perusing through Instagram a few days ago and happened upon Adam Silvera’s latest post. Not only was it his birthday in June 7th but he was coming to London for the first time ever. He was going to be in Waterstones answering all our questions, revealing his UK edition book cover for They Both Die At The End and just generally being awesome.

I was nervous to go because I was going by myself and also meeting and speaking with someone who I hold in such high regard. However, I should not have felt like this in the first place. Not only was the atmosphere friendly but it was so cozy!! I even made friends there, I wasn’t the only fan girl there apparently.

He spoke about all three of his books and the inspirations for them. His latest inspiration for History Is All You Left Me was inspired by a break up – very Taylor Swift haha!

I liked that he was really honest with his answers regarding some of his main characters mental health issues and his candid talks about sexuality in YA. I also loved that he has an unabashed love for Harry Potter, especially Cedric Diggory… haha!

All in all it was a great evening and I got my book signed! Made some lovely new friends which I am sure I will see again because this is definitely not my last book signing.

Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag.

Hello guys! I Hope all is well with you! I saw this book tag done by Emma from Emmmabooks from you tube and it was so interesting to me. The premise is basically your thoughts and feelings for the books you have read so far this year. So there’s a bunch of questions and then I just answer them. So enjoy!!

  • Best book you’ve read so far in 2017?

Flame In The Mist By Renee Adieh. I thought it was a Mulan retelling and although there are similarities, the story comes into its own! I loved the metaphors. I also love Mariko’s strength and cleverness. I can’t wait for the next instalment.

  • Your favourite sequel of the year so far?

I am going to be obvious here but I did only read this in March. It’s A Court Of Mist And Fury by Sarah J Maas. I loved it so much! I still fan girl over this book just thinking about it!! Maas has such a talent for fantasy and world building that she makes you feel like you’re in Velaris. Also, Rhysand. I don’t need to say more…

  • A new release you haven’t read yet but want to?

Following on from the previous question, A Court Of Wings And Ruin by Sarah J Maas. This is the conclusion for this part of her series. I have had this book since the 2nd of May (release day) and I was super excited to get it but I haven’t picked it up to read.  There’s absolutely no reason for it but I do plan to finish it by the end of this month!

  • Your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

I guess this could be because I’ve met him but my most anticipated is, They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera. The concept is so cool and I love the idea of speculative stories. The idea that you get warned about your death is actually quite intriguing to me in this novel. So I’m really excited about it.

  • Biggest disappointment for the first half of the year?

I was really disappointed by Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella. I really thought I would like it but it just seemed a little over simplified for my taste and the book was a little too short considering the subject matters brought up in the book. This is obviously my own opinion. There are others out there that like this book. It just wasn’t for me.

  • Biggest surprise of the year so far?

Both of Becky Albertalli’s books were such a huge surprise for me. I ended up loving both of them! They were funny, relatable, serious and thought provoking all at once! I cannot fault her!

  • Favourite ‘new to you’ or debut author?

Sarah J Maas is new to me this year and once I read it A Court Of Thorns And Roses, I was hooked! I am currently reading Throne Of Glass and loving it. She’s an amazing writer and I definitely recommend her.

  • New fictional crush?

Rhysand from A Court Of Thorns And Roses Series. I really can’t say why because I really do not want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read the books. Going in blind is the best thing you can do when starting these books.

  • New favourite character?

Simon from Simon Vs. The Homo Sepians Agenda. He’s so cute and sweet and sensitive and funny. I really would love to be friends with him! Cheesy I know but he’s actually great to read.

  • The book that made you cry?

I’m still here by Clelie Avit. It’s about a woman who ends up in a coma and a guy that happens upon her room in the hospital. This is a dual perspective story that is so heart wrenching. I finished this book crying and wanting so much more. This book is far too short!!

  • The book that made you happy?

Again I’ll mention Becky Albertalli’s books. Both The Upside Of Unrequited and Simon Vs. The Homo Sepians Agenda. They made me so happy and they’re so funny! I really really recommend them. I can’t say this enough!

  • Book to film adaptation or program that you liked?

I don’t know if this counts as it is originally a comic but I love Riverdale. It’s just so bad that it’s good!! The story line is just so cool. There’s great fandom that comes with it too so you feel like you’re part of something.

  • Favourite review you have done so far this year?

I like all the reviews I’ve actually been doing this year. It’s given me a chance to really focus on my reading and pay more attention to detail. Reviewing books is so much fun! The bookish community has also being so lovely and welcoming that I just feel like I belong.

  • Most beautiful book you bought or received this year?

The UK edition of Strange The Dreamer by Laini Taylor. I mean all that blue and gold is just divine. It was a present from my fiancé for Easter. Love it.

  • Some books that you need to read by the end of this year?

This might be like it’s cheating  but I have so many to list here and I don’t think I have the space for it all. This is definitely what the book blog is here for though. I’ll keep it updated with all my reading progress and everything in between.

Hope you enjoyed the tag!!
